1. Version

These release notes describe the changes, fixes, known issues, and release details that apply to SANbox 5000/9000 Series switch firmware, version 6.8.0.03.

Users who intend to utilize Enterprise Fabric Suite 2007 to manage SANbox 5000/9000 Series switches with firmware version 6.8 must use Enterprise Fabric Suite 2007 build 6.08.02 or later. It is recommended that QLogic SANbox and SANbox2 switches running version 5.0 firmware should be at version 5.0.1.10 in order to be managed by Enterprise Fabric Suite 2007 build 6.08.02 . It is also recommended that QLogic SANbox 9000 switches running version 6.2 be at version 6.2.1.06 or later and switches running version 6.6 be at version 6.6.0.15 or later to be managed by this build.

2. Changes

The following changes have been made to the firmware between SANbox Switch 9000 Series switch firmware version 6.6.0.15 / SANbox Switch 5000 Series switch firmware version 6.7.0.04 and SANbox Switch 5000/9000 Switch firmware version 6.8.0.03:

  • Call Home - The Call Home service improves fabric availability by providing for automated email notification of administrators about switch status and operating conditions based on specified event severity levels. The Call Home functionality is a standard feature on QLogic SANbox switches and may be configured using the Command Line Interface, QuickTools, and Enterprise Fabric Suite 2007. It requires an Ethernet connection to at least one Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server.
  • Fault Monitoring Changes – The following changes have been made to fault monitoring:
    • The concept of a “System” fault with periodic fault reminders added for SANbox 9000 only.
    • Increased visibility of faults in the Command Line Interface (CLI) and Enterprise Fabric Suite 2007
      • CLI Welcome screen & CLI prompt change.
      • Modified “show switch” and “show blade” command responses.
      • New command “show faults”.
      • Modified Enterprise Fabric Suite 2007 Faceplate view with new FAULT icon and fault list display plus “reason for status”.
    • Fault information available through SNMP, CIMagent, and the switch API.
  • Zoning Changes
    • DefaultZone parameter - Values have changed from True/False to Allow/Deny. There is no functionality change.
    • MergeAutoSave parameter – InteropAutoSave parameter has been renamed. There is no functionality change.
    • Zone Orphans command – This new command displays a list of zones that are not members of any zone set.
    • Zoning Active Capture command – This new command saves the active (enforced) zone set to the zoning database.
    • Zoning Configured – This new command displays the currently configured zone set in the zoning database.
  • Upload/Download of Config Backups – Four Command Line Interface commands have been added for uploading and downloading config backups. These commands will work even if the ftp service has been disabled:
    • config import
    • config export
    • config backup import
    • config backup export

3. Bug Fixes

The following table identifies the following fixes have been made to the firmware and QuickTools web applet between versions 6.6.0.15/6.7.0.04 and 6.8.0.03.

PR Number Problem
Firmware
22417 If you have an active security set with CHAP enabled, any E_ports included in the security set will become isolated after an NDCLA to firmware 6.6.0.11.00. The isolated ports must then be reset using the CLI or Enterprise Fabric Suite 2007. To avoid this issue, deactivate the security set before executing the NDCLA.
22965 If a 2G nStor RAID is connected to a port on the SANbox 9000 and you change the port speed from Auto to 2G or change the speed from 2G to Auto, the nStor RAID device will not re-login after the port speed change is activated. You must reset the port for the device to re-login.
23128 If a hotreset command is executed immediately after executing the “create support” command, the hotreset will fail and the switch will be reset disrupting any ongoing traffic. To avoid this issue, you must wait at least 10 minutes before executing the hotreset command.
QuickTools
22868 Tabbing to one of the buttons on the Network Properties dialog and hitting the Enter key does not always work. The workaround is to use the mouse when selecting the buttons.

4. Known Issues

The following table identifies the known issues in firmware version 6.8.0.03 and the QuickTools web applet.

PR Number Problem
Firmware
15409 You may see sluggish response from the Command Line Interface (CLI) when the switch is in a large fabric (12 or more switches and/or more than 350 devices) and the fabric is being discovered. For example, fabric discovery would occur when adding a new switch to the fabric. Discovering the fabric can take 1 to 5 minutes depending on zoning size and the number of switches.
16756 When upgrading firmware while in maintenance mode, the message "gpg: WARNING: This key is not certified with a trusted signature ..." is displayed. This message is incorrect and may be ignored.
17650 When running internal port loopbacks on a SANbox 5000 series switch, intermittent failures may be seen with inter-switch links are present. The workaround is to put the switch in diagnostic mode or to remove the inter-switch links.
18377 If the accounting server option is enabled and multiple Windows RADIUS servers are configured and available on the network, and if network performance varies, the message "All RADIUS servers failed to respond" may be displayed when authentication is attempted. In most cases, this message can be ignored. Please verify that you can log into the switch before taking other actions.
19489 When a blade is in the "Pending" state and the Set Blade IOx State Diagnostics command is issued, the command will silently fail. The blade will normally go into the diagnostic state after retrying the command. This issue applies only to the SANbox 9000 Series switches.
19504 If a loopback plug is pulled prior to, or during, initialization of the CLI commands Test Switch Connectivity External or Test Blade blade_id Connectivity External, confusing error messages may be seen. If this occurs, these tests should be re-run. If the errors are valid, the test will fail gracefully and the port can be identified using the Test Status Blade command. This issue applies only to the SANbox 9000 Series switches.
21867 If you are using NTP to manage the date/time, you may occasionally see NTP synchronization errors occur before the synchronization has an opportunity to occur. Synchronization will normally occur within 30 seconds and the premature errors may be ignored.
22099 Do not run “test port offline external” diagnostics on 10G I/O blade ports unless the whole blade is in the diagnostic state. If you do, the blade may become inoperative and a reset of the blade will be required. This issue applies only to the SANbox 9000 Series switches.
22117 You cannot edit the Binding attribute via the CLI unless FabricBindingEnabled is set to TRUE. This is accomplished via the “config edit”, “set config security” commands and then saving and activating the config. You may then edit the Binding attribute via the “security edit” and “group create” commands.
22193 When an I/O blade is inserted into a slot that is specifically configured for another blade type, the newly inserted blade should be operationally downed. If a blade is inserted after an Non-Disruptive Code Load (NDCLA), this may not happen at the moment the blade is inserted, but will happen if the newly inserted blade is reset or if a new switch configuration is activated. If you wish to replace an I/O blade with a dissimilar I/O blade (e.g. FC4G16 with FC10G4), we recommend that you ensure that the receiving slot is configured as either "Auto" or specifically for the to-be-inserted blade. This issue applies only to the SANbox 9000 Series switches.
22974 If a port on an Emulex LP11002-M4 4G HBA is connected to a port on the SANbox 9000 with a 2G SFP and you move the connection to a 4G SFP on the SANbox 9000, occasionally the HBA will login at 1G instead of 4G. If this occurs, reset the port on the SANbox 9000 and the HBA will then login at 4G.
QuickTools
10750 While running QuickTools, if the IP address of the entry switch is changed, online help not will open. To access the online help, close the current QuickTools session and reopen QuickTools using the new IP address.
15438 You may see sluggish response from QuickTools when the switch is in a large fabric (12 or more switches and/or more than 350 devices) and the fabric is being discovered. For example, fabric discovery would occur when adding a new switch to the fabric. Discovering the fabric can take 1 to 5 minutes depending on zoning size and the number of switches.
16999 When a new fabric is added, the Fabric Status Bar may incorrectly show a warning condition related to "Nicknames differ". This warning goes away once the fabric is fully discovered and nickname conflicts between switches are resolved.
18064 QuickTools dialogs are modal (designed to stay on top of a parent window or pop to the top of a parent window when the parent window is selected.). On Solaris and Linux platforms, there is a known issue for the Java plug-in (Sun bug #4739735) where the code to identify the parent frame doesn't work correctly. The dialog doesn't know who its parent is. The result is that all the dialogs act as if they were non-modal (they can come up or get behind their parent window and the parent is locked up by the dialog). This situation can occur when switching between other applications while using QuickTools or selecting the parent window while a child window is still open. If this occurs (a child window gets behind a parent window) the parent will appear non-responsive until the child window is closed. To resolve the situation use the Alt+Tab keys to change focus to the child window.
18183 To open the online help in QuickTools on the MAC operating system, the default browser must be set to a browser other than the one used to open QuickTools.
18512 Selective restore of only Network Properties will also restore Syslog information.
19434 In order for the Configuration Wizard to connect to the switch and work properly, the active Ethernet port must be the Ethernet port on the CPU0 blade. This issue applies only to the SANbox 9000 Series switches.
20291 When using the Firefox 2.0 browser with Solaris10 and opening and closing help windows from the dialog boxes, the following message may be displayed: “Firefox is already running but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process or restart your system.” If this occurs, you must follow the instructions to continue opening help windows.
22604 When using the configuration wizard to setup a SANbox 5600 or SANbox 5602 that is a -E model, the connect devices panel does not automatically update to tell the user which devices have been attached to the ports. The user must hit the back button to go to the previous panel and then select the next button. The connect device panel will then show the updated attached devices.
